We are the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a non-regulatory federal agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce. For more than a century, NIST has helped to keep U.S. technology at the leading edge. Our measurements support the smallest of technologies to the largest and most complex of human-made creations.
NIST's mission is to promote U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our quality of life. See what innovative work we’re doing to support it: https://www.nist.gov/
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) coordinates the development and use of voluntary consensus standards in the United States and represents the needs and views of U.S. stakeholders in standardization forums around the globe.
ANSI oversees the creation, promulgation and use of thousands of international norms and guidelines that directly impact businesses in nearly every sector: from acoustical devices to construction equipment, from dairy and livestock production to energy distribution, and many more. The ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) is actively engaged in accrediting programs that assess conformance to standards—including globally-recognized cross-sector programs such as ISO 9000 (quality) and ISO/IEC 17025 (testing and calibration laboratories) management systems.
We are ISO, the International Organization for Standardization. We are an independent, non-governmental international organization with a membership of 170 national standards bodies. Through our global network, we facilitate the development of voluntary and market-relevant International Standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges.
