The Barossa Bushgardens were established in 2001 by dedicated volunteers to preserve local plants native to the Barossa. The Barossa Bushgardens has grown to become a well-established Native Flora Centre, community enterprise, environmental educational resource, tourist destination and recreational area. The Barossa Bushgardens is idyllically situated on a 7 hectare site on Research Road Nuriootpa. Situated in the middle of the site is a Natural Resource Centre and Native Plant Nursery which provide a reference point for anyone wishing to learn more about and access regional local native plants, other natural resource management issues and sustainability. Showcased on site are 100 of the Barossa's 400 native plant species. Volunteers have worked tirelessly on developing display gardens, walking trails and interpretive signage, plant nursery and the volunteer centre to further skills and knowledge about native plant conservation.
