Balexert Information

Opened in 1971 with 40 outlets, Balexert has over the years become a key player on the Lake Geneva shopping scene. With over 120 stores, it ranks today as the largest shopping centre in French-speaking Switzerland and one of the three biggest in the whole of Switzerland. The first works to extend Balexert took place in 2001, expanding shopping-floor space from 27,000 m² to over 50,000 and adding a brand-new complex with 13 cinema screens. A new building was added in 2006, followed in 2010 by a further wing providing space for new retail outlets and direct access to tram lines 14 and 18. Major refurbishment work carried out since 2018 will enable the centre to be modernised and confirm its special place in the hearts of Genevans. By 2021, the centre will be fully refurbished, brighter and more modern, complying with the latest energy standards, a worthy way to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
