A worldwide cultural phenomenon and the highest-grossing film of 1985, Back to the Future launched one of the most successful franchises in Universal's history, including two theatrical sequels, an animated television series, a theme park ride, toys, comic books, video games and apparel. What has become over time as the official Back to the Future website, BacktotheFuture.com (originally known as BTTF.com) has been operating with full support and cooperation of the filmmakers since 1995. The site is the primary resource for official information about the Back to the Future Trilogy, including announcements about events and new projects involving the cast and/or filmmakers, screenings, charity events, tie-ins, DeLorean conventions, new products, rumor control, as well as an established outlet for officially-licensed Back to the Future merchandise. In 2015, Universal Studios and Amblin Entertainment selected BacktotheFuture.com as an official partner for their 30th Anniversary marketing campaign for the film series, using the web address on the packaging of every DVD and Blu-ray Disc released in North America.
