Azura Marine Earth is a social enterprise. We design & build solar electric boats, aiming at initiating & giving momentum to the solar power transition in the fragile coastal areas of South-East Asia. We build solar boats primarily for small communities and with local sustainable materials, using traditional boat building techniques merged with reliable ecological technology. Our boats can also be used for the tourism industry (diving, snorkeling, tours), special events, to raise awareness about environmental threats, to ferry people between islands in archipelago countries and many other purposes. As a social enterprise, we re-invest our earnings to sponsor the upgrade of fishermen boats from gas & diesel to solar power, provide apprenticeships and offer workshops to local communities and schools on environmental issues and their practical solutions. Currently, our main focus lies with mission “Surya Namaskar Bali” – Bali Salutes the Sun – which will achieve the first circumnavigation ever around Bali on a boat solely powered by the sun. The solar boat used, baptized “Surya Namaskar” – Sun Salutation in Sanskrit – is a classical Balinese fishing boat known as “Jukung”. The voyage around Bali is expected to commence around mid-2017 and take 7 to 10 days, casting off from and returning to Amed, North-East Bali. Surya Namaskar will sail from sunrise to sunset and will rest during the night on the Balinese shores, giving the opportunity to pass-byers, curious people, supporters, and fans to come and meet with the crew and have a close look at the boat.
