The Australian Caption Centre is a national not-for-profit, public benevolent institution that was established in 1982. Our role is:To promote captioning and the use of captioning to the Deaf and hearing impaired. To provide a wide range of free information services about captioning. To develop and expand captioning. As a not-for-profit organisation we return any surpluses that we make from our income-generating activities back into the organisation. This means that we are able to offer free information about captioning to Australia's 1.9 million Deaf and hearing impaired people so that we can continually increase the number of caption viewers around the country. We are not only Australia's premier captioning organisation but also one of the biggest in the world. We provide captioning services for 4 out of 5 of Australia's free-to-air TV networks and also caption videos, DVDs and TV commercials for over 250 agency and production companies.
