Apple Avenue Publishing was founded on July 21, 2011 by owner and book author Wayne S. Sutphin, Jr. Apple Avenue Publishing publishes positive children's books and graphic novels. Our books promote positive character building, cultural diversity, and positive attitudes among children and general readers. Books published by this company focus on building self-esteem and self-confidence, promoting the pillars of character, and on stimulating cultural awareness for children of all ages (including adults). Diversity includes learning to respect one's self and one's culture while showing respect for other cultures. Positive attitudes promote positive outlooks on life. These character traits and awareness require development early in childhood in order for them to be beneficial to children as they emerge into teenagers. Apple Avenue Publishing promotes books that are entertaining to children and that pertain to situations that they may encounter in school and in society. Our children's books are educational and fun to read. They cover life skills and academic fundamentals simultaneously. We feel that education should not only have an academic component but include an array of daily living and social skills as well. Apple Avenue provides an online meeting point for parents to discuss children's literature, receive support, feedback, and receive information regarding literacy. We also provide an outlet for information regarding children's reading activities and book festivals. Children's minds are little sponges waiting to receive information through reading. Gaining information needed to handle everyday situations and events is an important tool for children. Apple Avenue Publishing places great emphasis on learning and education by creating opportunities to read to learn. Currently, Wayne Sutphin, Jr. is Apple Avenue Publishing's exclusive book writer, but the company is in the process of expanding. Apple Avenue Publishing welcomes other authors to join the quest to encourage, inform, educate and support our country's greatest asset, our children. This company was formed initially to focus on book authors wanting to join a publishing company which represents integrity and devotion to the craft. In order to maintain quality, this will require us to focus, promote, and support one author at a time. Sutphin, Jr. has been an entrepreneur building, creating, and operating businesses for over fifteen years. Sutphin has been writing and publishing since 1994. His first solo and seriously published work was Steel Mittens. Sutphin has received a B.A. In Psychology and a minor in Studio Art from the University of Virginia in 1994. He has worked with children as a counselor and an in home behavior modification planner. Sutphin has also been an educator in public and alternative schools.
