Ai.Fish is a Hawaii-based startup focused on the application of computer vision to solve ocean conservation problems with a focus on applications in sustainable commercial fishing. Computer vision is an AI field that enables computers to derive information from still images, video and other inputs. Our efforts to date have focused on research and development in two areas: 1) Computer vision products to support electronic monitoring (EM) and 2) Software products that bring the benefits of computer vision to EM. EM systems, consisting of various sensors and cameras, can capture fishing and catch activity while at sea. In successful programs to date, data are typically analyzed on shore at a later time to reveal catch and fishing activity details including species counts, as well as the size and volume of the catch. This analysis is time consuming and costly which is limiting the implementation of the technology to improve the sustainability of fishing. Using AI to assist human review of EM footage we have been able to deliver highly accurate review with significant time savings and resulting cost savings. We also provide consulting services for the application of computer vision to unique problems in ocean conservation. Contact us to learn more about what we can do for you.
