AdvantageWest Economic Development Group was a nonprofit regional economic development organization serving the 23 counties of Western North Carolina, a geographic region of nearly 10,000 square miles. It closed in 2015 with the loss of funding from the NC General Assembly, after 21 years of serving the region. AdvantageWest's programs that were adopted by other organizations include Blue Ridge Food Ventures and entrepreneurial development programs that are now part of Mountain BizWorks. AdvantageWest also focused on job creation and economic development in advanced manufacturing, the green economy, and managed the WNC Film Commission.
