Headquartered in Charleston, SC - the 5th Street Group was created in 2012 by owners and restaurateurs Patrick Whalen, Alejandro Torio and “Top Chef” alum Jamie Lynch with the opening of Church and Union Charlotte in North Carolina, welcoming Chef Adam Hodgson as a fourth partner in November 2022 and Alexa Anderson in 2024. The group went on to open Church and Union Charleston in South Carolina in 2015, Tempest in Charleston in 2020, La Belle Helene in Charlotte in 2021, Church and Union Nashville in 2021 and Ophelia's Pizza + Bar in Nashville in 2023. Each restaurant has gained national recognition in renowned publications including Conde Nast Traveler, The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, and Southern Living to name a few.
