The mission of Coffee House Press is to publish exciting, vital, and enduring authors of our time; to delight and inspire readers; to contribute to the cultural life of our community; and to enrich our literary heritage. By building on the best traditions of publishing and the book arts, we produce books that celebrate imagination, innovation in the craft of writing, and the many authentic voices of the American experience.
Melville House is an independent book publisher based in Brooklyn and London. Founded by Dennis Johnson and Valerie Merians in 2001, Melville House has published political reportage, avant-garde fiction, titles in translation, poetry, and cookbooks. The list includes the Art of the Novella series, the Neversink Library, and the Melville House International Crime series.
Our books, online magazine, and writing program embrace writers, creators, students, and audiences who fearlessly shake up our assumptions and biases; and who believe in the power of storytelling. We celebrate stories that explore the space between the lines of our lives, that raise questions rather than give answers, and that rattle the walls of our Perception Box—expanding the boundaries of who we think we are, and what we think we know.
