ESPs have always experienced a high incidence of mechanical or electrical failure. Lift performance can also be affected by pump inefficiencies resulting from unforeseeable changes in reservoir conditions and fluid composition. Improving ESP runlife is therefore not the whole solution to maximizing the benefit of ESPs in high value wells. Longer runlife combined with expedient ESP retrieval and replacement maximizes well uptime; completely eliminates the requirement for a workover and dramatically reduces operating expenditure and associated HSE impact.
