The Zangmeister Center delivers a full spectrum of outpatient services within a welcoming setting that emphasizes patient comfort and convenience. Our caring and compassionate staff is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all patients and their families. On March 8, 2016, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed an experimental oncology project that will severely lower reimbursement for chemotherapy drugs. This risky experiment to Medicare Part B drug payments could potentially jeopardize the health of millions of Medicare patients. The cost of providing the highest level of chemotherapy care does not simply include the drug. Costs also include providing nurses, pharmacists and the IV equipment necessary to deliver this service to our patients. We agree that the high cost of drugs need to be addressed. However, we strongly oppose CMS' plan to manipulate the choice of treatment for cancer patients using heavy-handed reimbursement techniques. Physicians did not create the problem of drug pricing and its solution should not be on their backs. More importantly, it should not be at the expense of Medicare beneficiaries.
