Zagaya Information

Zagaya is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating malaria. We support this mission by working on a variety of interventions with partners located around the world. In particular, we partner to evaluate and bring to proof-of-concept unique technologies to impact pricing and access for malaria drugs and other problems germane to the developing world. We do this by: - Identifying, developing and applying technology to solve malaria-based problems - Working with partners to raise money, collaborate and ensure the success of the technology - Facilitating partners working together through the public-private partnership model Some of our current projects include: - Alternative sources of artemisinin, the key component of ACTs, the WHO recommended treatment for malaria - Conversion methods to create artemisinin from its precursors and the manufacturing of artemisinin precursors - The combination of transgenic mosquitoes for vector control with ACTs for malaria treatment to speed up the elimination of malaria in endemic areas - Supporting other organizations with project and program management services for their grants and development programs related to malaria elimination Zagaya also supports local collaboration and innovation to end malaria in the San Francisco Bay Area by hosting quarterly Bay Area Malaria Meetings and the annual Bay Area World Malaria Day Symposium.
