YVU Information

YVU Microfin is a microfinance unit of YVU. It is a trust registered under Indian Trust Act 1882. YVU commenced its microfinance operation as ‘Women Credit and Thrift Project (WCTP)’ in Manipur on 2nd October, 1996 under the leadership of Akoijam Tikendrajit Singh, with a capital of Rs. 35,000 and small grant assistance from Evangelische Zentralstelle (EZE), Germany. Since the inception of YVU, it has undertaken many grant-based projects. However YVU has identified credit as a better tool for improving the economic condition of downtrodden people as well as sustainability of YVU. Lack of access to credit, savings and insurance make it even harder for the poor to sustain their livelihoods. YVU Microfin aims to support the low income households and micro entrepreneurs in developing and expanding their business and thereby augmenting their income which ultimately leads to improving their quality of life. YVU Microfin has its operation in the state of Manipur. Manipur is well known for general strikes, blockade and law and order problems. YVU Microfin is unique in term of its lending pattern as the products are well designed keeping in mind the situation and people of Manipur. YVU Microfin has a total member of above 25,000. Because of the activities carried out by YVU in the last 4 decades, YVU Microfin has come to be known to all its stakeholders as a reliable institutions, having good governance, high level of transparency and a systematic approach.
