Often the sole focus is to build the cheapest house possible, with the home owner then having to deal with the ramifications of this. In contrast, most architects focus only on high end work with big budgets out of reach of the average home owner. I have 13 years’ experience in the housing industry, working with some of Brisbane’s best architects. In doing this, I consistently found a gap between what the architect wanted to design and what the client actually wanted. I also found that architects didn’t work with and manage budgets. In fact, most architects focus on winning awards rather than meeting budgets and creating happy clients. Since I started Your Architect, we have built over 100 houses in Brisbane. I have built a team of architects (supported by our drafting team) whose focus is resolving the client’s needs – often budget is first – before then taking them through the process to achieve this. I lead a brilliant team who, together, ensure our clients get the best project they could have for their money; through education, support, great design, and surrounding ourselves by a support team of advisers, consultants and trades. I want our clients to feel empowered to make the right decision, and understand why this is the right decision for them. We then create a strategy to work with the budget and their requirements, to find a balance between what they want and what they can afford.
