YOU Parent Information

YOU Parent is a parent education organization dedicated to strengthening the partnership between families and the systems that support them — including schools, community organizations, and care providers. Founded in 2002 by Sunny Chico, the organization spans birth through postsecondary, supporting families across every stage of a child’s educational journey. YOU Parent partners with school districts, charter networks, early childhood programs, higher education institutions, healthcare providers, and community-based organizations to build meaningful, sustainable family engagement. Our work is grounded in the belief that strong relationships between families and institutions are essential to student success and community well-being. Through a research-based approach, YOU Parent provides both families and professionals with shared tools, language, and learning experiences. Our model combines live in-person and virtual workshops with on-demand parent learning, while also offering training and professional development for staff and school leadership to strengthen their capacity for relational, culturally responsive engagement. Led by CEO Tara Abello, YOU Parent builds on a strong legacy of educational leadership while evolving to meet the needs of today’s diverse communities. The organization’s work is grounded in real-world experience across classrooms, schools, and systems, ensuring that solutions are practical, responsive, and aligned with the realities families and professionals face.
