Air, water, food, shelter, income: nature sustains every aspect of our lives. That's why protecting and conserving nature isn't just a matter of common sense. It's the smartest investment we can make.
Since our founding in 1951, The Nature Conservancy has harnessed the power of nature to help solve our planet’s most challenging problems. And while the stakes are high, so is our resolve: to create a world where everyone thrives alongside nature for generations to come.
We do this by working hand in hand with communities around the world. By committing to a science-based, non-partisan approach that’s stood the test of time. And by bringing people together, from all walks of life, to find common ground in nature.
The Department of City Planning enables high quality, sustainable and equitable growth and development of Atlanta by facilitating more options for mobility, abundant housing for all people, thriving neighborhoods, exceptional design in architecture and public spaces, preservation of historic resources, innovative regulatory practices, safe and durable buildings, attentive customer service and public engagement in all our work.
On September 6, 2017, we released a plan that envisions what Atlanta could look like in the future. The Atlanta City Design will help guide upcoming decisions on development, investments and influence policy to ensure intentional design for the city. We distribute more than 93 million pounds of food and groceries a year to 700 nonprofit partner feeding programs, including after-school programs, senior centers, community kitchens, shelters and food pantries in metro Atlanta and north Georgia. More than 16,000 volunteers help us get food to those who need it most.
