Consignment services were launched in the 1990's, primarily selling rare and collectible books online when the internet was just beginning to take shape. During its development, company management has embraced all manner of selling methods including online auction, online retail, bricks-and-mortar retail, and live auction. In 2004, the company purchased a retail space in Ithaca, New York and the first gallery-based book and ephemera auction was held under the National Book Auctions brand on January 23rd, 2005. In the Spring of 2016, National Book Auctions came under the umbrella at Worth Asset Brokerage, joining Worth Auctions in a new multi-gallery facility in Freeville, NY. The auction model refined through NBA continues today at Worth, with auctions that are open to the public and also incorporate online absentee bidding prior to and real-time online during the auction, in addition to absentee and phone bidding available directly through the galleries. Since the earliest days, consignment work has always been a part of the services offered and today, it is the backbone. Early in the company's history, inventory was frequently purchased at estate and other auctions.
