The company began in 1961 when Mr. Simon Lukos founded Eastern Aluminum, a wholesaler and distributor of aluminum awnings, siding, and roofing products. When his son, Mr. Stephen P. Lukos, took over the business in 1975, he recognized an opportunity to create high-quality retractable awnings that overwhelmingly improved upon the European imports. He switched his focus to wholesale manufacturing, allowing him to devote his time to concentrating on continuous improvements to his products. Mr. Lukos now holds five patents and has one additional patent pending. He also has patents pending in over 40 countries for his MicroCassette design. An avid inventor and innovator, Mr. Lukos created groundbreaking technology in the design of the MicroCassettes, which allow Worldscreen products to span widths of up to 40 feet - much wider than the competition's - without any fabric interruptions or wrinkles.
