Woodall Nicholson is one of the oldest established coachbuilding companies in the UK, dating right back to the 1820’s, when its major market was the building of horse-drawn hansom cabs and carriages. Through the years the company, which was originally founded in the Yorkshire town of Halifax, has maintained its reputation for classical coachwork whilst being associated with all the famous marques, including in the first half of the 20th century – Rolls-Royce , Daimler, Humber, Jaguar and Austin. In the latter half of the century, with the demise of separate chassis on cars, the Group has concentrated on vehicles from the Ford, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, Rolls-Royce and Saab ranges. Despite its long heritage, today Woodall Nicholson Limited is a very forward-looking Group with three major operating divisions – Coleman Milne, Mellor Coachcraft and CM Specialist Vehicle Division, each specialising in a different market sector. Although the coachbuilding traditions are still continued as an important part of the Group’s activities, Woodall Nicholson has diversified into many other areas, such that it is no longer dependent on the temperament of one single market.
