Wonderful Beast Information

Wonderful Beast is the Suffolk based theatre company bringing myths, legends, folk and fairy tales to audiences of all ages, in all sorts of ways. The company has dramatized tales from all over the world: it has sung, danced, played and animated them, devised bi-lingual shows (Norwegian in Tatterhood and Hindi in Little Red Chunni), and staged two community operas, The Six Swans in 2014 and The Nightingale in 2016. Wonderful Beast has collaborated with English Touring Opera on nation-wide school tours, work shopped and performed in India and launched Storm of Stories, a biennial festival in Suffolk. Most recently it has toured Return of the Wildman, a new play based on a local legend by Thea Smiley, toured both its 'Orla' shows to libraries and an early years festival in London. It is currently developing a new play by Smiley, The Last Woodwose, to be premiered at Aldeburgh's HighTide Festival in 2019. The production is preceded by a large-scale schools' outreach project involving ten local primary schools, museums and churches, revolving around the figure of the woodwose. The company is continually developing new early years music and storytelling performances as part of its outreach.
