The Wasatch Mountain Amateur Hockey Association (WMAHA) was founded in 1996. Its humble roots sprouted when several founding members began to coach eager young hockey players at the outdoor ice rink where the Utah Olympic Oval now stands. These original volunteers spent much of their precious time, their hard labor and their own money to eventually enclose the outdoor rink to better accommodate the fast growing membership. In 2002, WMAHA forged a union with the professional American Hockey League (AHL), Utah Grizzlies.
