Established in 1986, St John’s College is the first school in Zimbabwe to join the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA). We are also proud members of the International Boys’ Schools Coalition (IBSC) and the Association of Trust Schools (ATS).
Set in the northern suburbs of Harare, St John’s is a school with a distinctive character and soul, where tradition and forward-thinking education go hand in hand.
Our mission is to develop young men of competence, character and integrity, guided by our commitment to helping every student “Be the Best That I Can Be.”
Academic excellence lies at the heart of what we do. Equally, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Through our outdoor experiential learning programme, camps and tours, as well as a thriving co-curricular offering spanning sport, clubs, and the visual and performing arts, we challenge our students to discover their potential, embrace new opportunities and develop a lifelong love of learning.
At the foundation of our approach is Servant Mentorship - nurturing responsible, principled leaders who lead by example and understand the importance of serving others.
Above all, we strive to ensure that every St John’s student embodies our core values of Respect, Integrity and Empathy, carrying these principles with them long after they leave our gates.
Traditional Values. 21st-Century Thinking.

As a College we believe that the personal development of each student in all aspects of his/her life is the most important function of the school. We believe that this will only be fully possible where all who share responsibility for the student’s development; family, church and school, but especially teachers and colleagues; have the closest possible contact and co-operate together. We strongly believe that this is most likely to occur in a day school where students, their families and teachers interact with each other on a regular basis in School, Sport, Community and Church.
Our Christian values are the starting point for the whole enterprise, and we believe that our Catholicity is our most powerful aid in achieving this goal. We are both open to and critical of the values around us and are outward-looking and involved in issues of justice and concern for the needy. The spirit of service to the community is the hallmark of all in the College family.
