White Stag Sierra Information

Leadership can be learned, and we believe the greatest benefit to individuals and our community is to help youth gain leadership skills they can use today and as adults. Our program helps youth develop 11 core leadership skills, or competencies. We help youth start to learn about leadership when they’re as young as 11 years old, and help them gain more complex skills as they grow older. Youth can attend White Stag as a 6th grader and return again and again to learn even more. This plan is made up of three phases: Patrol Member Development, Patrol Leader Development, and Troop Leadership Development. The leadership skills are a framework containing the essential knowledge a mature teen needs to be a leader. Youth can apply these competencies anyplace, any time. We know youth are more flexible, adaptable, and ready to learn than adults. We help youth develop eleven leadership skills. These skills: - Provide a solid, well-tried and tested basis that helps youth learn leadership. - Are a foundation to help youth learn the best qualities of servant leadership that will last their entire life. - Help youth mature as a leader over time as they take part in our three phases. As youth mature and gain readiness to practice leadership, participants can return to White Stag Sierra again and again. They can graduate from being a participant to serve for one or more years on our three-levels of youth staff. The iterative, cyclical nature opportunity to help other youth learn leadership cements in the youth staff a life-long foundation in essential leadership skills. They learn skills in systems like planning, evaluation, counseling, problem-solving, communication, and sharing leadership. The leadership skills acquired at White Stag Sierra help youth advance and prosper in life. They often are promoted more rapidly to positions of responsibility and are more flexible and hard-working than many of their peers.
