WHINSEC Information

WHINSEC is a U.S. Department of Defense (War) professional military education (PME) and training institute at Ft. Benning, Georgia. With over 200 assigned military and civilian personnel – who come from both the United States and Partner Nation forces from throughout the hemisphere - WHINSEC delivers around 40 iterations of 16 resident courses to more than 1,250 students each year. WHINSEC has graduated over 37,000 students from nearly 40 countries since opening in January 2001; they include most countries in North, Central, and South America as well as the Caribbean, as well a select few countries from other parts of the world including Fiji and Ukraine. Regardless of the course, WHINSEC always includes modules on ethics, civil and human rights, democratic governance, the military’s role in a democratic society, and civilian control of the armed forces. Students may come from any country in the Organization of American States (OAS). When finished with their course of study, U.S. students head to their onward assignment, and Partner Nation students return to their home countries. In January 2026, WHINSEC transitioned to the auspices of the U.S. Army Western Hemisphere Command (USAWHC).
