Printed copies of our syllabus will be available and it will be published on the website in early September. We will be delighted to receive entries from that date. We are in urgent need of volunteers for a number of roles. The Festival is at a critical stage and we cannot guarantee that we will be able to continue running all sections after 2022 if more help is not forthcoming. It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Arne Brattland, our Guitar Section Head, passed away in the early hours of 30th December 2020. Arne was born in Norway and studied classical guitar at the Norwegian State Academy of Music. Later he studied in London and in 1988 he had a very successful debut at the Wigmore Hall. Arne toured many countries as a performer and several prominent Norwegian composers wrote works especially for him. He made numerous recordings and was a member of ensembles such as the Arctic Guitar Trio, the Adamson-Brattland Duo and guitar trio with his wife Debbie and Ray Burley. Arne was an inspiring teacher and he encouraged all musicians to enjoy performing. Many of his pupils took part in Portsmouth Music Festival. Arne will be sorely missed by all of us involved with Portsmouth Music Festival. We all have very fond memories of him; his enthusiasm for the Guitar Section and his calm and thoughtful manner will always be greatly appreciated by those who worked with him. Our thoughts are with his wife Debbie, daughter Heidi and the rest of his family at this sad time.
