Since the beginning, it was all about efficiency – and making your girlfriend happy. When Tim McClellan, founder of Western Heritage Furniture, made a bet with his girlfriend that he could make the $1200 lodgepole bed she saw in a catalog for much less, he decided to reclaim timber from old slash and burn piles near where he lived. The deal was that if the lodgepole bed did not look like the one in the catalog, he would have to purchase the “real” bed at full price. She loved it. Her friends loved it. Tim reclaimed more timber and sold more beds. Soon there were commissions to furnish entire homes, all with reclaimed lumber from slash and burn piles. In 1993 McClellan visited his sister Terri in Jerome - an old ghost town once known as the “Wickedest City in the West” - and never left. In 1994 Tim McClellan took over the old 14,000 square foot Mingus Union High School gymnasium in Jerome and opened Western Heritage Furniture. The Mingus Marauder’s giant pirate mascot still looks over the wood shop with menacing eyes and sword. In 1999, when Tim McCune was traveling the world as a private Yacht Captain, making furniture was probably the last thing on his mind. While taking the scenic route through Arizona, Tim’s VW van broke down in the little town of Jerome. As with many Jerome visitors, Tim McCune never ended up leaving the mountain town after meeting Tim McClellan and became intrigued with the direction the furniture company was taking. With McCune’s marketing expertise and McClellan’s extraordinary craftsmanship, the perfect partnership was formed that eventually grew Western Heritage Furniture into a world renown custom furniture company. And they've never looked back. Western Heritage now crafts furniture from old structures reclaimed from all parts of the United States. Iconic stallions of an American way of life, these old barns, buildings and homes provide a source reclaimed wood that makes up most of the material that goes into our furniture.
