Wellness in Infrastructure is a non-profit organisation aimed at identifying and delivering initiatives to tangibly and sustainably improve the mental health outcomes for employees within the infrastructure construction sector. Wellness in Infrastructure comprises dedicated volunteer members who hold senior management positions within private infrastructure construction companies, Victorian Government authorities and related industry associations. Wellness in Infrastructure was established as an initiative of senior business leaders from eight major infrastructure construction companies in mid-2018 to develop a response "by-industry and for-industry" to the distressing findings of the Downey-Swinburne Report. In November of 2018 a two-day Mental Health Survey: Engagement Workshop was held at Swinburne University. A cross-section of more than 100 employees from participating companies engaged in the workshops and assisted in identifying the factual causes of the current state of mental health in the infrastructure industry. The success of the Workshop participation and enthusiasm spawned the idea of establishing a supporting Wellness in Infrastructure – Working Group to assist in the identification and promotion of high-level change initiatives. With over 50 volunteer members, the Wellness in Infrastructure – Working Group continues to identify, prioritise and deliver practical solutions improving workplace culture and workforce mental health outcomes.
