WEI was established in 1990 through an agreement with Unilever PLC that concluded in the acquisition of the assets, intellectual properties and patents developed by the Unilever Research Advanced Technology Center. The Advanced Technology Center was created by Chesebrough-Ponds in 1977, and was the primary source for manufacturing automation technology throughout the Chesebrough family of companies until the Unilever acquisition of Chesebrough-Ponds. The founders of WEI were also the founders of the Advanced Technology Center. Some of the staff at WEI pioneered the use of machine vision in manufacturing, process controls integrated with robotics and in-plant networking. Our offices are located in Old Saybrook, CT at the junction of the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound. WEI is an engineering company with a long history of applying cost-effective technology to manufacturing and service-related problems. WEI has developed solutions for a wide range of industries. WEI has developed and deployed state driver's license systems for states including Arizona and Alaska. WEI has developed automation solutions for numerous companies including Sealed Air Corporation, UPS, Bausch & Lomb, General Dynamics and many others. WEI has automated entire plants through the application of state-of-the-art equipment and software and single unit processes with innovative electro-mechanical solutions.
