The year was 1999 when our first tiny home was mounted to a trailer. The little home was named Tumbleweed because it had roots and was mobile all at the same time. And in that moment, the seeds for a housing revolution were planted. We help people reach their dreams of downsizing their homes and upsizing their quality of life. Tumbleweed provides training materials, workshops, full plans and support for thousands of people looking to downsize into a Tumbleweed. Our cottage plans range from 261 to 874 square feet, while our House-To-Go models are from 117 to 172 square feet. As the tiny house movement expands, we work hard to assist people who don't have the time, skills or interest in building their own tiny homes. In 2013, we became a nationally certified small home builder. All our House-To-Go models, built at our Colorado Springs, CO manufacturing facility, are certified by the RVIA to meet electrical, plumbing, construction, heating and fire safety. Tumbleweed houses are delivered ready to move in -- anywhere in the Continental US and Alaska. Our headquarters are located in Sonoma, CA.

Since 1995, we have proudly designed and permitted more than 350 bamboo homes in the Hawaiian Islands and other beautiful locations in the world. History: During a walk through the bamboo forest on Maui in 1994, our founder Jeffree Trudeau experienced an epiphany. He understood that it was time to make his vision of “a better way to build” a reality. Shortly after his resolve, he met Co-founder, Architect David Sands, and together they began to co-create the first certified and permitted bamboo homes in the Western World. The first prototype, built in 1996, was a bamboo cottage designed for Kutira Decosterd, at Kahua O’Mali’o Maui Bamboo Farm Retreat. The cottage, or "Bamboo Temple", is still used as guest accommodations today. Bamboo Living Homes are an imaginative and bold solution to the tremendous impact caused by conventional building practices. Every bamboo home that goes into production saves about 10 acres of forest from being cut down. To date, there are more than 350 homes in the Hawaiian Islands and other locations in the world. The enduring quality and structural integrity of bamboo is a testament to the combined skills and genius of Jeffree and David. Bamboo Living Homes are still the only international building code certified, permit-able bamboo structures in the world. As a family-run business, we hold our values and principles close to heart in every decision we make. We believe that upright integrity and hard work are how a company makes history. With over a decade of team experience in residential construction, we realized there was something more meaningful in building tiny. So we immersed ourselves in the tiny home movement and despite all its glory, we found there was something lacking. Downsizing to create a more simple and free life is what it’s all about but at what point do you stop compromising your living standards? We decided to bridge the gap so that downsizing doesn’t have to mean downgrading. At this point, we realized there was something special so we took it even one step further. Why couldn’t we create a way for someone to downsize and upgrade at the same time? So, striving to take a creative and fairly new tiny home platform and make it exceptional on all fronts, spurred us on to come up with a way people can take ownership of the simple yet complex thought that “less is more”. We have set out to do just that.
