WB Yeats Bedford Park Artwork Project Information

Nobel-Prize-winning poet WB Yeats was born in Dublin + inspired by the West of Ireland landsacape, legends + lore of his grandparents' Sligo home, but spent most of his young life in London, the majority of that in the artists'-colony/first-garden-suburb of Bedford Park where his gregarious father found a congenial company of painters, poets, playwrights, political thinkers + small-press publishers who, in turn, inspired, encouraged, fostered + energised the young WB Yeats's emergence as poet + dramatist of genius, and of international political, cultural and artistic significance. The WB Yeats Bedford Park Artwork Project will celebrate Yeats's importance to Bedford Park and Bedford Park's significance in Yeats's development with a major public artwork and educational information about the poet, about 19c London-Irish literary and cultural connections, about migrants' historic role in London's cultural life, about the importance of fellow artists and artists networks to creatives, about the importance of community and neighbourhood in fostering the arts...
