WaveChaser and the US Surfski Championships are produced by Hui Wa'a Outrigger Canoe and Kayak Foundation. First Established in 2002, the WaveChaser Paddle Series has become Northern California's premier racing series for human-powered watercraft including outriggers, surfskis, kayaks, and stand up paddleboards. The WaveChaser Paddle Series is the brain-child of some friends from the Hui Wa'a Outrigger Canoe Club, located in Redwood City. Mike Martinez, Dave Jensen, and Mike Ng conceived the idea of a winter racing series after noticing that there was a lack of participation from the paddling community during the winter months. The goal of the series is to promote safe and competitive open water paddling to the greater Northern California community and grow the awareness of the sport in the United States. WaveChaser sponsors several races in the San Francisco Bay area which are designed to offer competition from novice through expert paddlers, and foster respect and appreciation of our coastal waters. WaveChaser offers a winter series of 6-8 races from October through March or April, set at locations throughout the Bay Area with separate courses geared towards all levels of paddling expertise. In addition, a summer series of 3-4 downwind races are held May through August. WaveChaser is the producer of the highly acclaimed U.S. Surfski Championships, attracting top paddlers within the United States and internationally.
