Waterloo.dev is a registered nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing developer education, promoting continued learning, and innovation through open-access programming, community events, training initiatives and access to learning resources. Founded by professionals with deep experience in global developer communities (Google Developer Groups, Experts, and student clubs), Waterloo.dev exists to fill the gap between corporate developer evangelism and grassroots tech empowerment. Our primary focus is to support underserved or underrepresented developer communities — especially in Canada, Central America, and emerging tech regions — by offering free or low-cost resources such as: In-person and virtual workshops on software, cloud, AI/ML, open source, web3, and emerging technologies. Social Networking and Career Building Conferences/Fairs Technical speaker training and mentorship programs Hackathons, study jams, and community-led bootcamps Support for youth and early-career developers transitioning into tech While Waterloo.dev will remain nonprofit and mission-focused, we collaborate with external experts, consultants, and partner agencies to amplify our impact — always prioritizing accessibility, integrity, and community voice; while providing quality learning opportunities. Our founding board includes experienced leaders in developer relations and tech education who have been running successful initiatives under the Waterloo.dev banner for over a year. This legal step is a formalization of that grassroots momentum and a launchpad for expanded programming in Canada and beyond.
