Waseskun is a unique community healing centre which offers services to Aboriginal communities throughout eastern Canada. Started by a group of volunteers in 1988, Waseskun has become one of the most effective resources in North America. We provide the following services: - Intensive residential therapy for men referred from the communities and prison - Group programs for men and woman - Supervision and follow-up support for ex-offenders - Reintegration training for community front-line workers and caregivers - Intensive personal development sessions for community caregivers - Training for the communities in prevention and intervention, family group conference, and caring for the caregivers - Support networks for community caregivers - Research and development in Aboriginal justice and corrections - Workshops and conferences in justice, corrections and mental health issues - Parole supervision on the Island of Montreal and on the Kahnawake reserve - Community consultations for individual offenders in Canada and the U.S. We have a dual focus: to help male offenders regain balance in their lives through a holistic residential program and to provide vital support to front-line community workers. So far, Waseskun has assisted almost 400 men in returning to their communities.
