Our work is led by the Combined Authority, chaired by our Mayor, and supported by the thematic committees of the Combined Authority which focus on achieving our corporate objectives.
Membership of the Combined Authority is made up of the Mayor and democratically elected councillors from our West Yorkshire partner councils of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield, and a non-voting member representing the City of York Council.
The Mayor’s Business Board brings together local business and community leaders with expertise across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, professional services, and the arts to champion the regional economy.
Wakefield Council (legally known as Wakefield Metropolitan District Council) serves c325,000 people in a district which includes Wakefield, Castleford, Pontefract, Featherstone, Normanton, Knottingley, and Hemsworth. Its administrative buildings are the Town Hall and County Hall in Wakefield.
The largest provider of education and training in the Wakefield District, offering a range of courses including A Levels, T Levels, Vocational courses, Apprenticeships, Adult Learning and University – Level Education.
The College forms part of the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, alongside Selby College, which aims to serve needs of the region from its campuses in Castleford, Selby and Wakefield.
