Following a move from Saskatchewan to the Okanagan in the early 1970’s, Founder Rod Friesen opened Voyager RV on April 24, 1984. Located in Winfield BC, the business featured five consignment RVs and an office in a double-wide trailer. "I got quite a few consignments, and that was my inventory" explains Friesen. "We scoured the local classifieds, magazines, and back alleys. Things started to grow from there." That sales lot is now home to over 350 RVs on over 12 acres of land and a two-story office and parts store along with three service and detail shops has replaced the double-wide trailer. In 2004 Rodney’s son Jason assumed the role of Vice President, and has helped grow the family business within the digital age. "Dad built such a great brand and reputation" explains Jason. "We’re now focused on the integration of new technologies to continue that growth." From 1 employee in 1984, the father son duo credit their growth to the now over 60 employees. "Our management and staff are amazing!" Jason explains. "We’re all focused on 1 goal; creating a great customer experience.” Today, 80% of sales start or end via the Internet, leading the company to focus on offering the same great service as they do in-person. "It’s important to embrace the cultural shift of the digital age" Jason explains. "Our website is fully optimized and we're constantly making it easier to search inventory and get the answers you need." As a result of this focus, Voyager’s customer base has expanded across North America. They also helped form North America's leading RV Classifieds site - RVT.com. Looking to the future, Jason sees a continued focus on what's best for the customer, not the bottom line. "Despite being a 'profit-center' for most other dealerships, we did away with Hidden or Surprise Dealer Fees. We also instituted an industry-first 10-Day No Hassle RV Exchange policy, which has been great peace of mind for customer's to ensure they make the right choice for their new RV."
