1962, Perth, Western Australia. A young ‘Shecky’ Shilkin (grandson of Solomon Moses) is rummaging around in a shed under an almond tree whereupon he discovers, in an ancient suitcase, a ream of yellowed paper upon which is scrawled, in fading Yiddish, the recipes that had been entrusted to his ancestors two generations previous. Years later that Shecky would realise what he had discovered, for those pages documented many of the delicious dishes that his Bobba, and then his own father, would prepare and share with family and friends throughout their lives.
