The Flanders Knowledge Center Water is an independent intermediary between local governments, academia, the industry and SME's, promoting collaboration between all actors. Vlakwa supports the acquisition of knowledge and stimulates the exhange of national and international experience. Vlakwa also assists the international valorisation of water technology. In those areas on the market where the water problem constitutes a threat to the economy, Vlakwa looks for solutions. Vlakwa helps improving results, when it comes to costs, production and efficient utilisation of water. Vlakwa collects and channels the needs of problem owners, answers their questions or brings them in contact with solution and product providers. Vlakwa intitiates, coordinates and facilitates R&D projects and sets up demonstration projects. Vlakwa also acts as a central contact point for strategic advice and information. Vlakwa is an independent division within VITO, a leading European independent research and technology organisation in the areas of cleantech and sustainable development, elaborating solutions for the large societal challenges of today.
