Leeds is a lively city, rich in culture and heritage with lots to explore. More than 760,000 people live within our city boundaries and over 100,000 people come to work in the city centre every day. Many thousands more tourists and visitors come to shop, eat out or enjoy the range of attractions Leeds has on offer. Leeds is the second largest metropolitan district in England, with a population of over 715,000 and covering an area of 552 square kilometres. Located near the geographical centre of the UK, Leeds is the regional capital of Yorkshire and the Humber and is home to more than 75 different nationalities. Leeds City Council delivers over 500 different services to residents and is dedicated to bringing the benefits of a prosperous, vibrant and attractive city to the people of Leeds.

We are the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, here to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and to promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the area by the public. In pursuing these purposes, we are also required to seek to foster the economic and social well-being of local communities within the National Park.

They include rangers taking care of our special landscape, advisers at our information centres who make sure tourists have an amazing visit, property teams, planners and archaeologists. Administrative staff and those working at our head office help provide the infrastructure and support vital to our care of the outdoors. The Lake District is home to the highest mountain in England in Scafell Pike, and the deepest lakes in Wastwater and Windermere. Our purpose is to enhance the unique environment of the National Park and manage it as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where: · the landscape and its diverse wildlife thrives · the more than 40,000 people who live and work in the park create vibrant, prosperous communities · our millions of visitors enjoy an outstanding experience.
