Virticus Corporation is a Portland, Oregon based provider of automated networked control systems for outdoor lighting arrays. The company’s products, which are currently installed in customer sites, include a street light control module Rialto designed internally and produced via an outsourced manufacturer; the value added resale of a network control module Lancaster; and a software control interface Malibu. This smart grid (DR) compliant system replaces existing ‘dumb’ photo sensors which only switch streetlights on or off with the sun and lack dimming and remote control capability. Virticus has a working solution for any luminare type including High Pressure Sodium (HPS), LED, and Inductive. Virticus’ unique competitive advantage lies in the patent pending support for dimming LED arrays, integrated software and services, communication of certified power metering information, and a business model that scales with both profits and energy prices. In addition, the Virticus system provides an infrastructure for retrofitting streetlights in the future by adding energy generation components such as solar arrays and wind turbines that ultimately support incremental revenue.
