Vinal Bakery Information

Sarah Murphy, owner and pastry chef, grew up in rural New Hampshire on the top of Birch Hill. Her early days were spent collecting eggs from the familys chicken coop and stealing bites of her moms freshly baked bread. Life in New Hampshire was strongly tied to the seasons - in the spring she tapped the maple trees with her dad to boil the sap down to syrup, summer days were spent picking blueberries with Nana, in the fall apples were collected from the familys orchard to make into pie, and the woodstove was tended all winter long. Sarahs love of baking and the New England seasons inspired her to open Vinal Bakery. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in journalism, Sarah worked in career services at Harvard University before leaving her desk job to pursue her love for baking. She spent a summer baking at Morning Glory Farm on Marthas Vineyard then returned to the Boston area to work at Flour Bakery. She spent six years at Flour in a variety of roles - front of house, baker, and pastry chef. Upon leaving Flour, Sarah spent time working in the kitchens of Sarma and 3 Little Figs in Somerville, and Bagelsaurus in Cambridge, where she launched a weekly pop up under the Vinal Bakery name selling English muffins. Longtime Somerville residents, Sarah and her partner JonO were thrilled to find a location in Union Square to open Vinal Bakery. Just down the hill from their apartment on Vinal Ave, they are excited to share their love of food and New England with all of you!
