SSI is a national not-for-profit organisation providing life-changing human and social services. With community at the heart of everything we do, our purpose is to empower individuals, children, families and communities from diverse backgrounds and identities to fully participate in the economic, social, civic and diverse cultural life of Australia, creating a more equitable, resilient, enriched and inclusive society. Since 2018, Queensland-based Access Community Services has been part of the SSI family. And with the opening of our Victorian office that same year, SSI now provides an extensive footprint across the eastern coast of Australia. We realise that no one organisation can achieve social change in isolation. We partner with federal and state government departments and agencies, community-minded businesses and individuals, and we build relationships with domestic and global human-service led organisations and NFPs. We are an umbrella organisation for 15 migrant resource centres, multicultural services and specialist human-services agencies that work together on program delivery, advocacy and sector development.

The Commission was established in 1986 by an act of the federal Parliament. We are an independent statutory organisation and report to the federal Parliament through the Attorney-General. Our Vision: Human rights: everyone, everywhere, everyday Our Mission: Leading the promotion and protection of human rights in Australia by: * making human rights values part of everyday life and language; * empowering all people to understand and exercise their human rights; * working with individuals, community, business and government to inspire action; * keeping government accountable to national and international human rights standards; We do this by: * listening, learning, communicating and educating; * being open, expert, committed and impartial; * fostering a collaborative, diverse, flexible, respectful and innovative workplace. Our statutory responsibilities include: * education and public awareness * discrimination and human rights complaints * human rights compliance * policy and legislative development.

The Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS) has served as the peak organisation of the social and community services sector for 70 years. VCOSS raises awareness of the existence, causes and effects of poverty and inequality and advocates for the development of a sustainable, fair and equitable society. As well as promoting the wellbeing of those experiencing disadvantage and contributing to initiatives seeking to create a more just society, VCOSS also provides a strong, non-political voice for the community sector.
