Ver was founded with the mission of building assistive vision devices that leverage the recent availablity of small, yet very capable multimodal large language models, to help people navigate their everyday. Through the facilitation of the Capstone project required by final-year engineering honours students, Ver has completed the first prototype of the Ver One: a small, lightweight, open-source wearable device that leverages locally hosted, multimodal generative AI that will aid members of the vision impared community in navigating their everyday. This device was developed with the help of several members of the low and no vision community, spanning verticals from government policy makers, researchers and everyday individuals, to ensure that design decisions were always made with the end user in mind. Ver One does not impair the use of hands (such as a smartphone) and blends in with a user's look, removing the social stigma that can come with wearing or using an assistive device.
