First Chapter Studio starts as a non-profit organization; and that's not an accident. Some of the best research in technology, sociology, economics, and geology never leaves the page it was published on. Turning it into something people can actually use shouldn't have to wait for the right commercial structure first. So we didn't wait. As long as I'm an entrepreneur (Axiobit is deep in my heart), choosing to be engaged in a genuinely exceptional team inside an NGO isn't a step back from building companies; it's a greater form of responsibility. It means building the foundation properly before asking anyone to bet capital on it. This is our first chapter, not the final structure. First Chapter Studio is designed to evolve from this non-profit foundation of incubating ideas coming from scientific researches, into an accelerator, and in time into a venture capital vehicle in its own right, as the model proves itself. None of this works without the people already at the table: researchers who know where the real findings are, professors who've spent careers close to the source, lawyers who know how to structure it properly, entrepreneurs who've built before, and VC partners who know what a fundable company actually looks like.
