Vela.ngo Information

Vela is a humanitarian network working with refugees, asylum seekers and displaced families across Cyprus, Greece and Poland. Founded in 2022, we run programmes in three countries. Protection. Child protection and safeguarding, case management, cross-border anti-trafficking work, and legal support. Shelter and material support. Accommodation, food and essential items for people who arrive with nothing. Education and integration. Language classes, help with school enrolment, psychosocial care, vocational training and routes into employment. We work alongside national ministries, municipalities, embassies and international organisations, funded by EU instruments, EEA and Norway Grants, national programmes, private foundations and individual donors. HOW WE WORK Locally led. Our country teams are staffed and run by people who know the systems they work in. A Polish municipality and a Cypriot ministry are not the same animal, and we do not pretend otherwise. Built to be accountable. Safeguarding, data protection and audit standards are the same across all three countries, and they were there from the start rather than added when a report was due. Not dependent on one source. We spread our funding deliberately across institutional instruments, foundations and private donors, so that no single decision elsewhere can stop the work here. Here when it counts.
