VCI Capital Management (VCI CM) has been jointly created by John Morton and the founders of VCI (Dr Graeme Stanway, Lionel Louw and Gideon Malherbe). John Morton is an experienced investment management professional having worked in private equity, investments and corporate finance for the past 20 years. In his previous role he was Head of Australia / Director – Private Equity for a significant global portfolio of investments in the natural resources sector. VCI are globally renowned forward-thinking strategists whose insights are consistently valued and have been validated years later. VCI are particularly known for their innovation and strategy work in capital intensive industries. For example, they have worked with 9 of the 10 largest resources companies in the world. VCI has helped to shape industries through its strategy and transformation work. This has resulted in initiatives such as remote operation centres, automation of operations and technology partnership consortia. VCI were also co-founders of the first web-based forecasting and decision optimisation engine for agriculture, mining and chemicals in Silicon Valley and also established the world’s pre-eminent think tank on strategy and innovation in the mining industry “State of Play”. For the past 5 years, VCI (through its founders) have also been active investors in several highly successful start-ups in Australia and overseas. Accordingly, the formation of VCI CM represents the formal progression of VCI’s investment activities. It will leverage VCI’s capability and knowledge for macro strategy input, in-depth industry and technology expertise, additional deal flow and to unlock potential markets for investee companies. The initial focus for VCI CM will be to establish a Venture Capital fund primarily focussed on innovation and emerging technologies in: - Renewable energy - Natural resources (oil and gas, metals, mining and agriculture) and associated service industries - Utilities and infrastructure - Automation, robotics, big data, analytics, defence innovation and Fintech.
