Västbergaskolan AB Information

Västbergaskolan is a free school located southwest of central Stockholm. The school was built in 1946. Before 2001 the school was governed by the local authority. When Kenth Aronsson, Lilian Samuelsson and Hans Larsson took over the school in 2001, there were a fewer staff and students. Since then the number of staff and students has increased dramatically. The school now has 660 students and around 100 of staff. Although the number of students has increased much, the school still manages to maintain relatively small classes. The school is built up of four units based on the age of the students. The four different untis are; preschool to 2nd year, 3rd to 6th year, 7th to 9th year and a special educational need's unit. Most of our students complete all ten years of the compulsary part of the Swedish school system at our school. The majority of our students then continue their education for another three years at an secondary school. During their 10th year the students decide on an secondary school of their choice. The students begin to studying English at the age of seven. They start by learning the language in a more playful way, for example; songs for 20 minutes at a time. By the time they are 13 years old many are very good at English and when they leave us many are fluent. Västbergaskolan is considered to be a safe, calm and friendly environment for all. The school can provide a good learning environment that prepares the students for higher education as well as life itself. This view is shared by both teachers and students as well as parents.
