Dr. Joseph Ricotta is a nationally and internationally renowned expert in the field of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. He brings years of valuable experience working at the nation’s leading institutions—such as Yale, Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, and The Cleveland Clinic—to his current role as the CEO and Medical Director of the Vascular Institute of Atlanta. In addition, Dr. Ricotta is also an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Georgia Regents University/University of Georgia (GRU/UGA) School of Medicine. Dr. Ricotta was the first surgeon in the Southeast United States—and is one of a few in the world—to perform endovascular robotic surgery. He is the first surgeon in the United States with FDA IDE approval to create and implant custom modified endografts in high risk patients with complex aortic aneurysms, and was the first to perform peripheral drug coated balloon angioplasty in the state of Georgia. Dr. Ricotta has received numerous awards and has been repeatedly named a “Top Doctor” by both U.S. News and World Report and Atlanta Magazine, as well as one of “America’s Best Doctors” by Castle Connolly, who only gives this designation to the top 1% of doctors in the nation. He has also been chosen as a “Top Surgeon” in the United States on multiple occasions, and has been named a distinguished fellow by the Society for Vascular Surgery. With his abundant experience and reputation as one of the best vascular surgeons in the nation, Dr. Ricotta is also dedicated to the training and teaching of future physicians and vascular surgeons. Through his position as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the GRU/UGA School of Medicine, he is very active in the training of medical students, physician assistant students, surgical residents, and fellows. He also leads a variety of training workshops on new and innovative endovascular techniques for physicians and vascular surgeons from all over the world.
