Value Management Information

The Institute of Value Management, Australia Incorporated was founded in recognition of the need for an organisation to provide assurance to the community about what to expect from Value Management and those who practice it, to set professional standards as a basis for community confidence, to address the professional needs of people practising Value Management (and others interested in it) by keeping members, practitioners and others informed on issues pertinent to the advancement of the profession and Value Management in Australia (and its neighbours). The Institute has established a Code of Conduct for professional VM work and all members of the Institute are bound by it. Disciplinary provisions are in place and can be applied to any member found to be in breach of the Code. The existence of the Code and its associated disciplinary provisions provides confidence to individuals and organisations in the community who engage members of the Institute to deliver professional VM services. The Institute is a not-for-profit professional association incorporated under the Australian Capital Territory Associations Incorporation Act 1991. It operates under its "Rules of Association" which provide for governance by the Institute's "Board of Management". The Code of Conduct is an integral part of the Rules of Association. As an integral part of its contribution to the Australian community, the Institute has been instrumental (together with the contributions of representatives of industry groups and other professions) in the establishment, development and formal adoption of the Australian and New Zealand Standard for Value Management (AS/NZS 4183). The Institute has established criteria for the various grades of personal membership, for Registration as a VM Facilitator and for accreditation of courses that satisfy educational requirements for admission to the membership grades of Member and Fellow. The Institute publishes "The Value Times" approximately four times per year, organises national conferences (usually every second year) and from time to time arranges seminars and other activities to assist members to maintain their professional expertise. The Institute has recently endeavoured to encourage the development of regional groups of members (and other interested people are welcome to participate) who will meet a few times per year in their regional location for networking and professional fellowship, perhaps with one of the group reviewing an interesting VM project. People and organisations of good standing in the community and having a genuine interest in Value Management and its applications are welcome to join the Institute. Applicants are required to demonstrate their interest in pursuing the Institute's vision and objectives and they must give a commitment to abide by the Institute's Rules, including the Code of Conduct. Membership is of particular benefit to practitioners and students across most professional disciplines: architecture, engineering, law, building & construction, industrial design, quantity surveying, strategic planning, management (including consulting), industrial relations and human resources management, as well as public administration in general. Members of the Institute have an established point of reference for professional development and they have opportunity to contribute and share in the exchange of professional experience, as well as to extend their network of talented and focussed professionals.
